It’s a girl! (Lesson: Using 6ths, sus 2 and sus 4)

Hi folks!

My little angel was born Friday, July 18 at 2:22PM. She and mom are totally healthy and everyone’s back at home safe and sound. Here’s a couple of pictures…

I’d like to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement. It really means a lot to me and my family to have such an amazing group of supporters. I received hundreds of emails from well-wishers over the past few weeks. Everyone’s saying, “Hey, congrats on the new product and your new addition!”

And even though I’m unable to respond to every email personally, I want you to know that it means soooo much to me that you take time to write me a quick note or make a blog post. I’m truly blessed to have such a great relationship with my customers and readers. So, “Thanks a million!”

So, today, I’ve got a lesson from DVD 5 of Ultimate Guide To Chords. In this lesson I show you some pretty unusual chords: 6ths, sus 2, sus 4, M7sus4, 6sus2, etc. I know this sounds complicated, but it’s not. Basically I’m using one chord form and moving it around the fretboard and using open-strings to create this different chords. This will make a lot more sense when you watch the video. Check it out…

P.S. I’m planning to give you a few of the jam tracks from the course a little later this week. So, check back here on the blog for those.

P.P.S. The official release of the new course is NEXT week! (Thursday, July 31 at 12:00PM EST). Let me know if you’re as excited as I am… post your comment below!

Writing your own songs

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

These lessons come from DVD 3 of 8 from Ultimate Guide To Chords (coming July 31, 2008).

I highly recommend that you have the tab in front of you as you watch. You can look at fig 2 and 4 for the roman-numeral analysis. It’ll make a lot more sense that way.

Remember: the roman numerals are used to identify which scale-degree that chord is built on. Example, the “one-chord” (I) is built on the first degree of the scale (If you’re in A major, the I is an A chord). The “three-chord” (iii) in A major is C# minor. I explain how this whole system works in the course. But hopefully you get the idea.

Check it out… and enjoy!

Using open-position guitar chords

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Hi guys (& gals),

Wanted to give you a couple new videos from the course and answer the question of “When will this be ready?”…

Here’s the deal: I was hoping to have this ready by July 25. But that’s just not going to happen. I just finished recording a killer lesson for my Guitar Theory Secrets class. And I still haven’t finished the book for Ultimate Guide To Chords yet. AND my wife is going into the hospital to have this baby next week. So, you can see that I’m a little behind schedule.

But, I promised to have it out THIS month. And, God willin’, I will! The new release date is JULY 31. The exact time is always a problem because I have so many students outside the U.S. (especially U.K., Canada and Australia). So do me a favor…

PLEASE post your comments below and let me know the best U.S. time for you. Because, as usual there will be some powerful time-sensitive bonuses for the 1st few people who order.

Also, I really need your input on this one: Do you want me to have a guitar-contest? As you know, I usually give away a new axe when I release a new course. Do you think I should do another guitar-giveaway?

Here are the videos. Post your comments/questions below. We got several more videos that will be releaed right up to the release date of the course (7/31/08). So, make sure you put my email address on your “safe-list” if you have SPAM protection software.

Enjoy!

How chords are related to scales

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Today, I’ve got 3 videos to share with you from Ultimate Guide To Chords. The first two are from the video tutorials section of the course. The 3rd is from DVD 2 of 8. It’s important to watch the videos in order (because it’ll make more sense that way).

Video 1: How guitar chords are related to scales.

Video 2: The roman numeral system and how to identify how guitar chords are functioning within a song.

Video 3 (below): Gives you a “real-world” example of how apply it!

I got word that the DVD/CDs were shipped to our fulfillment center last Thursday. So, we’re getting closer to having this thing ready to go! I know people are getting really excited. We’ve been getting a flood of emails and posts and everyone is asking to pre-order because they’re worried it’s going to sell out before they get a chance to order.

I’m putting the final touches on the book — it’s huge! (And taking longer than I hoped it would). So, I really haven’t had a chance to think about the “price” question. But, details will follow…

But, I do know this… if you already own one of my courses, you’ll receive a discount on this new one. It’s my way of saying, “Thanks!” for being a loyal customer.

Enjoy these videos and look for a new one from me later this week.

How to transpose chord progressions

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Hey folks!

We’re getting closer to releasing Ultimate Guide To Chords and things are really starting to heat up around here. I just need to clarify a couple of things:

  1. We are not accepting pre-orders at this time. We’ve gotten several calls/emails about this. We’re just not set up to handle orders for this product right now. In fact, we don’t even have the product in stock yet! But, we may do this like a day or two before the “official” release. I’m not sure. Let me know your thoughts. (Post below).
  2. Yes. There will be manual that gives you all the tab, chords, etc. It’s just not shown in the spy photo because I’m not finished with it yet. :-)

Here are 2 videos from the DVD 1 of the Ultimate Guide To Chords. I watched these before we made this post. And I realized that unless you understand the roman numeral system (RNS), some of this isn’t going to make a lot of sense. I go over RNS in great detail in the course. But, in these videos I already assume you know how it works.

Anyway, I think you’ll still be able to benefit from these videos. But I’ll try to give you a more detailed video about how it works a little later. Go check out these videos and let me know if you have any questions by posting your comments below.

Cheers,

Dan Denley

New “Spy Photo” Released!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Hey folks,

Well, yesterday I *finally* did it. I got in my car and drove to FedEx and put 12 master disks in the mail to my DVD/CD replication company. Man, what a relief! I’ve been secretly working on this project for a LONG time now. And yesterday, I officially got the money off my back. It’s finished!

This is my biggest course yet: 8 DVDs, 2 Audio CDs and 2 CD-ROMs. It’s HUGE. There’s about 10 hours of total video and 43 full-band jam tracks (recorded with live instruments).

Ultimate Guide To Chords

The entire course is dedicated to CHORDS and how to use them in your songs, riffs and licks. I’m calling it

the “Ultimate Guide To Chords.”

It’s going to be released next month. Not sure exactly when. My wife is due the 3rd week of July. So, unfortunately, I’ll have to work around the baby’s schedule. :-)

Here’s a picture of the new course. (Obviously, these are the masters, so there’s no artwork… but there will be!)

The only thing missing from the picture is the workbook. Still working on it.

We’re going to be sharing a TON of video lessons form the course. Look for the first one very soon.

Please post your comments below!

Cheers!
