New video & “Spy Photo” of Lead Guitar Secrets!

Hi folks,

Yesterday I finally got my hands on the finished course and it looks awesome! Here’s a “spy photo”…

(Obviously, this is a pretty bad picture. I just tossed everything on my floor & took a quick snapshot.) As you can see, there are a total of 6 disks. From left-to-right you have: DVDs 1-4, the audio CD and the CD-ROM tutorial (far right).

The book is beautiful. The printer did an excellent job. The cover is really glossy and it’s printed on a heavy card stock (so it will last!). I had them use the spiral coil because it’s easy to lay the book out flat. It’s 200 pages with 188 musical examples!

Yes. It took me a very long time to finish. Just ask my wife. :-)
About today’s lesson: This video is on “Practicing Tips” and comes directly from DVD 2. I give you three examples of how to practice your scales using three different rhythmic patterns. I’ve provided the tab for you so you can see exactly what I’m playing.

Right-click here and choose, “Save As…” to download the tab for this video lesson.

Here’s the video from DVD 2:

Note: This video requires the free Adobe flash plug-in.

Hope you enjoy this lesson. If so, please post your comments/questions below.

Cheers!

P.S. We are just barely over a week from the release of Lead Guitar Secrets (Friday, July 20). And things are really starting to heat up!

There will be 1,000 initial copies available. (I ordered twice as much as I did when I released Blues Guitar Secrets last year). There will be several time-sensitive bonuses for the first few people who order. And it won’t be the usual crap that you can get free on the internet…

I haven’t finished them just yet. But I’m almost certain that several of the bonuses will be videos that I create specifically for the release of the new course. So, if you’re interested, you should probably sign up for priority notification.

P.P.S. There currently 200+ entries for the Fender Strat contest. If you have entered, and you’d like to do so, please make sure enter by July 20.

Enter To Win A U.S. Fender Strat Here!

Hi folks,

We’re officially two weeks from the release of Lead Guitar Secrets! Things are starting to really heat up around here trying to get everything in place for July 20 (the release date). Anyway, we’ve finally nailed down the details on the contest.

I’ve decided to give away TWO Fender Highway One Strats. I’ve ordered both guitars today… and they’re SWEET!

Each guitar is an American made, Fender Highway One Stratocaster: Rosewood fretboard, wide seventies headstock, fat frets, alnico pickups, vintage-style bridge, satin finish & C-shaped maple neck. One is black, the other is red-wine (shown below).

Here are some pics:

Contest Entry Instructions:

OPTION 1, Blog Comment Category: Post your comment below (click the “comment” link). Tell everyone exactly WHY you’re excited about Lead Guitar Secrets and HOW you believe it will improve your playing. (”I want to learn how to create solos from scratch, how to use scale patterns to play over the entire fretboard, fundamental solo techniques so I can play the solos of my favorite guitarists, etc.)

OR…

OPTION 2, Video Category: Create a video explaining WHY you’re excited about Lead Guitar Secrets and HOW you believe it will improve your playing. Upload your video to YouTube (or your favorite video hosting site) and email the link (URL) to us at StratContest[at]AmazingGuitarSecrets.com. And we’ll post your video here on the blog.

I’ll get some of my friends to read/watch all the entries. We will narrow it down to six really good ones (3 blog comments & 3 videos).

Then you will vote for your favorite entry! (I’ll let you know exactly how to vote later).

Note: there will be two contest winners: one from the blog comment category (option 1 above) and one winner from the video category (option 2 above).

IMPORTANT: The contest entry deadline is July 20. (Lead Guitar Secrets release day). The winner will be announced here on the blog sometime during the week of July 30th.

Keep in mind, this is not a “random” contest. The six finalists will be chosen based on how well you answer the why and how questions (listed above). So, take your time when you’re posting your comment or creating your video.

Note: Make sure you sign your comment with your first and last name. (You do not need to post your email address).

Here are just a few of things that you’ll learn from Lead Guitar Secrets:

  • Finger strength training for speed and accuracy
  • 50 must-know solo licks
  • In-depth study of scale-chord relationships (how to choose the right scale for your solo).
  • How & when to use the seven modes of the major scale
  • Solo techniques: bends, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs, creating runs

There will be several time-sensitive bonuses for the first few people who order. I haven’t nailed them all down just yet. I’ll let you know more details as we get closer to July 20.

So, go ahead and tell us why you’re excited about this new lead course and how you think it will improve your playing by creating your video or posting your comment below… All the best!

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Dan Denley

P.S. You can enter both categories if you wish. But, there will be six different finalists chosen.

Hello brother & sister guitarists!

Hope you’re all doing well. We’re getting closer and closer to the release of my new Lead Guitar Secrets course next month. The DVD’s & CD’s are being replicated and I’m currently proofing the book. (It’s taking forever because there are tons of musical examples!)

Anyway, people are really starting to get excited. Email has been pouring in lately about the previous two videos from LGS: finger strength and modes.

Here’s just a couple of comments that we’ve received:

Hi Dan,
I studied music for 2 years in college, with one year of classical guitar. It’s fantastic to hear these theoretical concepts (like modes) really start to make sense. After watching your first video from Lead Guitar Secrets, I dusted off my guitar and I’m slowly building my fingers back up to strength. Thanks, mate!

Dan,
I’ve bought the AGS course, the Blues course and can’t wait for the Lead course. I’ve learned more about guitar since I met you than in any other period of my life. You’re the best and so is your instruction. May God bless you and your work.
Peace,
Mark

Wow. Thanks James, Brad and Mark. I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I wanted to say so publicly. It’s comments like those that get me out of bed every morning. :-)
Anyway, here’s three more videos from the new course. I hope you enjoy them. If so, please post your comments and questions below (click the “comments” link).

Or, if you’d like to leave a voicemail (like James above) please call toll-free: 1-800-609-9006, Ext. 6280. International callers dial 678-255-2174, Ext. 6280. If you’ve got a picture, please send it to Dan[at]AmazingGuitarSecret.com. Thanks!

Video #1: Horizontal fretboard movement
Horizontal movement basically means moving up and down the fretboard. You do this by understanding how scale patterns are related.

Video #2: Three-string box positions
Box positions are used extensively by blues & rock guitarists. They are simply the 3-string versions of the pentatonic minor patterns.

Video #3: Connecting scale patterns
The ability to connect scale patterns is the key to being able to achieve total freedom in your solo. In this video I demonstrate how to connect patterns 1 & 2 of pentatonic minor.

Go here for more info on Lead Guitar Secrets and sign-up for priority notification. And remember, “I want to hear from you!” So, please post your comments below!

Cheers,

Dan Denley

P.S. Please help me “spread the word” about the release of Lead Guitar Secrets. If you enjoyed these videos & and you know someone else who could benefit, please click the little “envelop” icon below and email this post to your guitar-buddy.

Hi folks!

Hope all is well. I’ve got TWO videos to share with you today. And some really exiting news as well…

The first video contains two important messages:

1) There are some BIG changes are in the works for AmazingGuitarSecrets.com. Let’s just say that existing website is going “bye-bye.” It’s going to be sooooo much better… a forum (and I’ll be an active member), a product review section (where YOU will be able to rank products and write reviews), a FREE video lesson section where I’ll be publishing new videos on a regular basis and a WHOLE lot more…

2) My new course, “Lead Guitar Secrets,” coming July 2007!

WATCH THIS FIRST. (Click the picture below):

The second video is actual footage from my new course.

It’s a video on finger-strength and agility. (The first of five steps in learning lead guitar). At the end of the video you will be automatically redirected to a webpage where you can sign-up for the next video in this lead-guitar series. I’m going to be releasing videos from the new course right up to the release date (July 2007).

Hi Fellow Guitar-Lovers,

Hope all is well. I’m about to head out to my favorite Mexican dive to grab some tamales, so I’ll make this snappy…

Today’s lead guitar lick comes directly from the 2nd position, A minor pentatonic scale. The pentatonic scale has five total positions (because there are five notes). And this particular lick comes from the 2nd of those five movable positions.

This lick sounds great over any chords from A minor scale:
Am, Bm (or B dim), C, Dm, Em, F, G. It would also sound good over a I-IV-V blues progression like A7, D7, E7.

You’ll notice in the notation that I’ve indicated an A7 chord for the rhythm guitar part. This would be fine, but you can also use any of the chords from the key of A that I mentioned above. The reason is because all the notes from this lick come from the key of A.

There are two parts to this lesson: tab and mp3. Here are the links for each:

Blues-Rock Lick #2 tab (pdf)
Blues-Rock Lick #2 audio (mp3)

Make sure you right-click and choose “Save As…” to save the pdf and mp3 to your hard drive.

Please post your comments/suggestions/questions here on the blog. I love hearing from you!

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Dan Denley

Hi Folks,

Hope all is well. I know it’s been a while since I posted anything on this blog. I’ve been on this blues “kick” for the past few months. So, I’ve been posting most of my lessons over at my blues blog: MasterBluesGuitar.com.

And of course, most of the info/lessons I’ve been posting there are related to my Blues Guitar Secrets course that I released, Dec. 2006. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’m going working on a new series of lessons…

As you know, “The Blues Had A Baby, And We Call It Rock-And-Roll.” Now, I can’t remember who said that but it was some famous guitar guy. And I couldn’t agree more.

In fact, if you listen to songs like “Badge” by Cream or “Whipping Post” (Gregg Allman) or “Smoke on the water” by Deep Purple you’ll hear a constant blues influence:

  • pentatonic scales
  • lots of bends
  • the “flat-five” blue note (the b5th in a pentatonic minor scale)

Anyway, what I thought I do is create some “blues-rock” solo guitar licks for you. Each lick will have the notation (with tab) and a recording of me playing the lick so you can hear exactly what it sounds like.

You can take any of these licks and simply “cut-and-paste” them into your next solo.

Here is blues-rock lick #1:

Note: right-click the links below and choose “Save As…” to save a copy of lick (pdf) and the recording (mp3) to your hard drive.

Also, for all you “tone-hounds” out there, here’s the gear that I used to make each recording:

  • Marshall JCM900 100W, hi-gain, dual-reverb head (with fresh tubes)
  • 4×12 Celestion Marshall cabinet
  • a BBE Sonic Stomp pedal
  • Tom Anderson guitar (drop-top)

If you like this lesson, please let me know by posting your comments below. I want to make sure I’m teaching what you want to learn!

Lastly, feel free to email the link to this lesson (just copy-paste the link you see in your web browser right now) to your any of your guitar buddies. I want everyone to benefit from these lessons.

Now go practice!

Cheers,

Dan Denley

Hey Folks,

I wanted to let you know that I just made a quick update to the “How To Solo With Pentatonic Scales Book.” There was an error in the tab on page 5 of 40. The C major scale had an F# in the tab, but there’s not F# in a C major scale!

Anyway, I fixed this error and uploaded the corrected version.

You can download it here:
