How to solo with just three strings!
My Blues Guitar Secrets 2.0 is a logical, step-by-step course with 9 DVDs (over 10hours of video) that takes you by the hand from blues beginner t0 blues shredder…
I’ve got a killer video for you today (see below). But first I want to answer a few questions that I’ve gotten…
- “Is this for the beginner?” It’s for the beginner blues guitarist, but its’ not for the absolute beginner. It assumes you have some basic skills — you can play at least a few chords and you know some riffs and licks.
- “Is it downloadable or online?” No. This is a physical course (9DVDs, 1 CD, 185 book) that will be shipped to via UPS ground (U.S.) or USPS International Airmail.
- “What style of blues will I learn?” The course doesn’t focus on one particular style (like Chicago or Texas). Instead, it’s more of an complete survey of various blues guitar techniques. It starts with basic 12-bar blues songs forms. Then, I introduce new chords (like dominants and 9ths). Then you’ll learn different rhythmic patterns like swing time, shuffle and 6/8. The next DVDs teach you all the blues scales you need know followed by 50 must-know blues licks. Next you’ll learn how to play those licks over the jam tracks. Finally, you’ll be creating full-blow blues leads from scratch. DVD9 is all about acoustic blues. You’ll learn nine songs in various blues styles (fingerpicking, delta, country, ragtime, etc).
Here’s a video from DVD 4 of Blues Guitar Secrets 2.0 which is about the “Three String Box Positions.” These are based scale-patterns that come directly from the pentatonic minor scale. The difference is that you’ll only be using the top three strings: E, B, G.
Enjoy!

I am not understanding the nut on the guitar you are playing here. I quite possibly have gone through my entire life being totally unobservant, but I do not ever recall seeing the nut arrangement you have here. What is this that you do?
…and I love the lesson also:-)

Nice one Dan,good to keep it simple sometimes,actuall..y while watching this made me recollect, cause i’m actually at a time right now were i’m at an absence of guitar playing. I think actually its something we all come too when learning patterns and scales that yea,we can learn’em and actually improvising is up to us. But your lesson here is proof its a good way to learn peice meal.

I will be with gang, but my english is so bad! I try hart!

I am interested but suspicious of anything that tries so hard to get me to sign up to buy something w/o telling how much it will cost. In these economically hard times a guy really has to choose how to spend his money. However the video did look nice. Guess I will miss the early mover stuff just to find out how much it will cost before deciding….
Cheers

Hi Dan, England calling! Great instruction as always. You make it all seem so much sense. More and more I realise you have to learn and understand the theory. Then of course you have to try and teach your fingers - I seem to have a long distance between my brain and those fingers! But it is amazing what comes after a bit of practise. Great Dan and thanks.

Now how do I use the box positions? In relation to chords.

I kinda know the progression of the scale but when I play it, it sounds kinda grade 1-ish. Is it supposed to be played with the high notes then move to the lower notes then to high again to make it sound like pro-ish. I tried observing my friend do it and it seems like thats how he does it.

I thought learning lead would be a hard thing. What I saw on this video is a confirmation of how to use or practice the basic 5 pentatonic patterns I learned from a scruffy old book 4 yrs ago from a mate at school without knowing how to go about it.For the past 4 yrs I’ve been doing exactly what this video shows, thanks Dan, this confirms that I was practising the right thing.

One thing that I have come to realise, and that no one has ever mentioned this - could be because it is so obvious! -, is that for one to be REALLY good at the guitar, i.e. understanding the theory and be very skillful, one has to be very good at mathematics. If one is not good at it, no matter how hard one tries, one will remain an average player.

I really want to buy your books and dvd. But, I could not afford to pay for it. That is why I always watch your free videos. Anyway, thank you for that,Sir Dan. I hope I can have a copy for free. Thanks again

After 40 years of playing guitar in weekend rock bands, I decided to start giving lessons. I signed up for the free one-month trial of Amazing Guitar Secrets. After just 3 days of looking over Dan’s materials, I’ve decided to stay for more than just that first free month, … although that was never my intention.
I came onboard just to get some good teaching ideas. I’m staying because I’m not only learning about how to teach guitar, I’m already on the path to improving my own playing.
I’m 56 years old and Dan is teaching me that it’s never too late to take your guitar playing to the next level.
