Here's a piece of history lesson. At the end of WW2, Romania (my country) was on the side of Germany, not because we were nazis or something, but to recover lands occupied by USSR in 1940 (when they were allies with Hitler). At that time, Romania was trying to exit the war against the allies. The condition allies put was that USSR occupy Romania. At that time Stalin promised FDR and Churchill he's going to respect Eastern Europe countries sovereignty. Little did they knew Stalin had no intention of respecting that promise. So under the guise of free elections (which were in fact a fraud) he placed communist governments in almost all the countries of Eastern Europe where soviet tanks dictated politics. On top of that, being at the end of the war, almost the entire romanian army was disarmed and sent into prison camps. So on one side, you have soviet tanks and experienced soldiers and on the other you have old man, crippled, women and children. Protests were made, our king tried to refuse any contact with the communist government, but in the end, he was forced out of the country and people's rallies were gunned down without mercy. The dictatorship under which I was born, came about 20 years later. Ceausescu, at first gained popularity with the population as he virulently opposed USSR, siding with Czechoslovakia during the 1968 Warsaw Pact intervention. At that time, USSR tried to enter Romania and Ceausescu proclaimed that any man or woman capable of bearing arms would be granted one. It was just for show obviously as USSR was not prepared for full scale war against another communist country. Ceausescu, thus gained much popularity among the people but also among Western Nations. Gerald Ford even visited Romania in 1973. However, by the start of the 80s the regime changed, it moved to full dictatorship, every public opinion was suppressed, intellectuals deemed dangerous to the regime were sent to psychiatric institutions. The regime even went as far as supporting terrorist organizations like that of Carlos the Jackal, financing bombings of Free Europe radio stations. By 1989 however, Gorbachev initiated his perestroika, reforming the USSR, so in Eastern Europe communist regimes started to fall, one after the other. Most of them quietly, but in Romania it was anything but quiet. It started with the arrest of a very popular Lutheran priest in Timisoara, the second largest city in Romania. The protest was opposed with tanks. Thousands of people died, but the protests continued. After a week of protests, Ceausescu summoned a big rally in our capitol hoping to gain support to subdue the protest. However that rally turned against him. Army was once again called to suppress the riot, but by early morning the next day, they too switched sides and revolution truly started. I was only 12 years old then, but I can still remember the mass number of people gathering from factories and going towards the center of the city. And of course, in the evening, tanks rolling in front of our home, people cheering and gunfire in the distance. I’m sorry hsabin, but you didn’t exactly read my reply completely. I have found it very difficult to find high quality guitar instruction from the internet. Despite money is tight, I am still interested. How much is the course? If it's over $100+ is partial payments available? I would love to learn the Blues. Thanks for your service and support. Sincerely, Chuck Rock on!
