Big annoucement & 12-bar blues video…
Hey what’s up? I got a big announcement and a cool new blues video for you.
Check it out…
New blues video… How To Play A Simple, 12-Bar Blues (Using Dominant 9ths)
Here’s what I’m playing the video. Note: the //// marks are called “slash notation.” (And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with “Slash” the guitarist). It simply means you can play any rhythm you want as long as you stay within time signature. (In this case, it 4/4 time. Also called, “common time”).

I also briefly mention (and play this chord)…

Cheers!
Dan Denley

dude, this sooooo cool. I’ve been wanting to let the cat out the bag for a while now. But I wanted to make sure we were going to be able to pull this off before the end of the year. And it looks like we will!
Let me know if you have questions/comment. Post them here. I’ll do my best to respond right here. Ok?
Cool.
Cheers!

The only reason I CAN play any solo stuff is because of Dan’s course. Seriously. Best course ever. Great teacher. Awesome explanations. Easy to understand.
November 20th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
basic chording , i personally believe chording is all basic material, however it is a must know thing you need a strong foundation to build on and knowing chords is a must, the enteresting thing is knowing how to get notes out of those chords for melody and solo work.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Sammy…
Dude you rock! I checked out your myspace page. HEAVY. Man, I used to play all that stuff when I was a kid.
Mustaine. Hammett. Hetfield. Friedman.
Dang that was some crazy stuff, man. Reminds me of the days when I practiced like 4-5 hours a day.
Cool
Keep on rockin’!

Dan,
How much will the course be? Is the book cross referenced to the video?
November 20th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Earl,
Haven’t decided on the price yet. But I’ll definitely let you know before Dec 12.
YES. The book is 100% referenced to the DVDs. So you can easily follow along.
Cheers!

Sign me up Dan. You’ll make a guitar player out of me yet.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Dan the man, you are the best, I truly enjoy your video on the blues, the zoom shots were fantastic, this is the best video, in my opionion, your explanation of the different chord possibilities in a blues progression,is great, the fireside chat was so cool it was difficult to keep my eyes of the fireplace, and to listen to you talk, your honesty and truthfulness, about what you do is nice keep up the good work, can’t wait to here what the blues video is going to sell for, your guitar friend from Boston. Ma, Aaron J. Halpern
November 20th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Hi Dan,
Your lessons are greatly appreciated, and your patience also. I know you will sell anything you put up for sale in the way of lessons and one of these days (no pun intended, it’s an old old blues song) I’m gonna partake in one of ( or more ) of your courses.
Thanks Very Much, and Happy Thanksgiving,
Vinnie Sabatino

Sounds very good Dan … looking forward to learning more about the new blues 2.0 offering - and thanks for that video
November 20th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Dan,
Watched your Big Announcement video. Good quality vid and sound was great. I did notice that you started breaking a bead on your forehead, but you still looked relatively cool.
I will look for more vids. I notice that my technique is forming mostly around the Pentatonic scale, being an old rocker so Blues is in my destiny. Thanks, Bob (Ingy)
November 20th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Looks awsome, I’ve been looking for good fingerpicking lessons for a long time, and I love accoustic blues.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Great work I like how you brake everything down it makes it much easyer to pick up. Thanks
November 20th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Learning new chords (although the fingering is difficult on some) is a great way of getting off the plateau that seems to plague many of us. The D9 - E9 chords sound awesome with the A7 chord. Thanks Dan.
November 20th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Hi Dan,
Sounds like I may have to add to my collection :o) looking forward to the 2.0 offering, guess that will be a Christmas present to myself :o), sure would like to at some point get a good resophonic acoustic, I have heard Scott Ainslie, I do like his style of blues. Thanks again :o)
November 20th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Geeze dude - you just showed me a chord I have been using for over 35 years and had no idea what it was - I just liked the sound of it. Now I know what it is and how to better use it.
God Bless
Jerry

Dan,
I really got alot out of the 1st Blues Secrets Lessons. But I do agree with you that it could have been produced a little better. I like the new video clip you just sent because it has better “close ups” of the fretboard/your fingers and you are playing slower…(thats good for us old folks). Anyway, keep up the good work. Didn’t want to ruin your day, but I thought I’d give some constructive feedback on the first Blues Videos.
Take care,
Kevin
November 20th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Seems to fit in with where I’m at now and the video and teaching style are superb.
I’ll be watching and hoping that this lesson was taken from one of the first CD
’s of the course.
I may have put it on my Christmas gift list!
November 20th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Dan, i love playing the blues chords, however i’m struggling with barred chords. whats a good way to master those? can’t wait for the course to come out. thanks for making guitar so much fun.
November 20th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

November 20th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Hey Dan,
I own several of your courses. Your method of teaching as well as your personality work for me! Interesting release date Dec 12th. Keep up the good work!
May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

November 20th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
oh @ buy the way BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR BABY GIRL!!
November 20th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Kevin,
No offense taken at all!
I realize that the production quality on my original BGS course was not great. (And that’s being nice).
The new one is TONS better.
Hopefully you can tell from the sample video above.
Cheers and thanks for the post!

The cool thing about you Dan, is that you are an honest to God hard working guy, like a lot of us out there. It’s not easy to do what you do, and I thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and love of music with all of us. By the way, you didn’t look cool because of the fireplace. You looked cool because you are natural in all that you do, and you connect with people who are just, well, people! You could look cool in front of an overflowing toilet too! KEEP IT GOING!!!
P.S: Happy to hear that your sweet baby girl is doing well! All the best, and take care> Mike
November 20th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Mike,
Seriously, dude. I can’t thank you enough for that comment. It REALLY means a lot.
I just LOVE what I do and I hope that it shows.
Thanks for the well-wishes for Marcella. She’s a JEWEL.
Cheers,
Dan

sounds like da bomb course. as lots of good info, so little money.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
This new Blues course sounds very tempting especially since I am studying Jazz playing. You are right Jazz and Blues go hand in hand like peanutbutter and jelly!
November 20th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
looks great dan look forward to seeing more
November 20th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Looks like you have a winner!
I have all your courses, with the exception of BGS. I am currently taking the GTS course. My wife thinks I am spending too much but I want to learn as much as I can and your courses keep me on track. I trust the Lord to make it happen. Your courses have helped me so much as worship leader in our church. I give him all the credit, praise, honor, and glory for meeting my needs through your work! Yes,I have arranged some of the old hymns and some contemporay Christian songs with a blues feel. The church loves it. Anyway, To God Be The Glory,
IHS, JulioRazy
November 20th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Dan, I’m looking forward to this new instructional. I’m not much of a guitar player (primarily a harmonica player) but the guitar players in the group I play in always try to teach me a little something so I can ’sit in’ when I want to on guitar. The first thing the more accomplished players showed me was precisely what you show in the second video above. Before that I was merely playing 5ths. The problem was as many times as they showed me, I wasn’t getting the chord positions down..not really understanding it. Your video above JUST made it clear. Yes, I’m going to have to watch it a few more times and ruminate on it a bit until it sets in, but at least now I can understand what they (and you) are teaching. Learning guitar is imperative for me too….I own 8, so unless I really learn they’re going to be a wasted investment.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Bill - DANG, 8 guitars! That’s more than I have. He he he.
Definitely want to learn to REALLY play them.
If you’ve got a Fender Strat in that collection, you better blow the dust off it… and get ready to play some BLUES!
Cheers and thanks for the post,
Dan
November 20th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
JulioRay,
Wow, man, thanks for ordering all the courses. That’s like nearly everything I’ve ever created. That’s humbling, man. THANKS.
Sounds like you’re doing some great work in your church. KEEP IT UP!
Dan

Great video Dan.
One Christmas my pastor did a Christmas teaching in front of my fireplace for TV. I can appreciate what is involved in making a video as well as the work that goes into developing your courses.
Thank you for the quality products.

3:30am here but that blues clip was real cool you’re really getting things together.
November 21st, 2008 at 1:31 am
Hey Dan, great demo of the course! Though I’m not even close of that level in my playing yet, the course definitely covers the blues. I didn’t even know there were that many levels of blues, whoa!
Anyway good luck with your Dec 12th release!
Keep on rock’n

Wow Dan! From Beale Street to my street. Enjoyed the brief tour of Beale St. awhile back and I am currently enjoying AGS because of it. Look forward to ABGS 2.0 and going to put it on my list for Christmas.
November 21st, 2008 at 10:43 am
Dan,
Congrats on the new coarse. I know it will be a big hit. I liked the video you sent, it was great. I have to tell you I own all your coarses, but LGS I don’t think I will ever be a lead guitarist. I have owned your coarses for awhile now and haven’t really got started on any of them. I can’t seem to switch chords, I know them ,I just can not switch smoothly. I am disabled and take alot of meds. There is alot of days my fingers are swollen but I kept trying. Now I have pretty much given up. I have a daughter and grandaughter that wants to learn so I will probabley pass the coarses to them so you don’t have to worry about them being used. I am probabley going to purchase the new coarse, if my budget will let me, because I keep thinking that someday I will feel better and start practicing again. Thank you for all your hard work and keep it up. You are my inspiration, you have a way of putting things that makes me want to try harder. Thank You and god bless you and your family. Sorry I got off the subject of your new coarse. I think It will be great
Bob
PS You should post some new pics of the little one.
November 21st, 2008 at 11:33 am
9 dvd’s. It has to have everything there is to learn about blues. I also have all of your courses except the last and the only reason I didn’t get that one yet was because I’m still learning from the ones I have. It would have just set around drawing dust. Thanks for the sample videos. I too appreciate your hard work and honesty. I have a new granddaughter so I know what you mean that they are a jewell. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
November 21st, 2008 at 11:40 am
Dan,
The new course looks excellent and very comprehensive. Looking forward to it!
November 21st, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Donald G., hey man thanks for the order! Listen, yah, actually the new course is going to be replacing the old BGS course.
Cheers,
Dan
November 21st, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I appreciate your sincerity in wanting your students to learn as much as possible and to improve as much as possible. Hence, the new more comprehensive blues course. It’ll be worth taking a look at. I have all your courses and have learned so much from them. I’ll be giving my new grandson (10/24/08) a guitar and some of your lessons as soon as he is able to grasp it all.
November 21st, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Great Dan keep em coming
November 21st, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Awesome, Although I think acoustic blues should be a separate course but that’s just me
November 22nd, 2008 at 12:00 am
I like your teaching on blues on the video. hope that I can further use the concept on my church worship songs.
November 22nd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Dan,
Looks like it will be well worth the investment, just like all your courses. Will you be covering open/dropped tunings, acoustic blues, different styles (Texas, Delta, Chicago, etc.)? Also do you plan on or have you thought about offering payment over several months or turning it into a monthly course like your GTS course? Keep up the great work! You really do a great job teaching and explaining things at a level I can wrap my head around. Thanks!
November 22nd, 2008 at 5:25 pm
I just want to thank you for all these videos and great lessons..
November 23rd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Hi Dan!
A REALLY BIG THANKS for all your effort in bringing good lessons and tips and stuff to all of us that plays rather than good… ?!
I am a little unshure about paying over internet and shipping to europe, but soon I´ll intend to buy the blues guitar course 2.0, I´ll just have to convince my head first…. As said THANKS for all the joy you´re bringing (actually thats a line from an ABBA song) bye from Sweden. Mike
November 23rd, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Hey Dan;
Great news! I was hoping you included something for acoustic blues. What a fantastic idea. I am going to keep an eye for this new course. Keep the details coming. Great video.
Blues Guitar Secrets 2.0 (9 DVDs, acoustic included). what a great idea!
I am glad your daughter is doing great and you are happy. Became a Grandpa August 27th, a beautiful Granddaughter.
Thank you for your effort in providing good music education for all of us. Good Bless you and your Family.
November 23rd, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Hello Dan,
I purchased lead guitar secrets in September and I’m still working with it. It’s great to have the DVD’s with your instruction which is so clear and consise. I think I would be interested in learning the basics of blues because so much of the rock that I listen to derives from the blues. I look forward to some of the free videos and possibly ask Santa, “my husband” for the blues guitar secrets course for Christmas. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Peace, Sharon R.
November 25th, 2008 at 6:36 am
Ilove the way you explain things.
November 26th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Dan,
Glad to hear that the young lady is doing so well…may your happiness continue to increase and spill over. Both videos were great…the fireside one as well as the Dominant 9th one. I really enjoyed the close up shots of the cords you were using and thought to myself this guy is the anti-thesis of a “used-car salesman” because he is sharing his knowledge.
I want to tell you that I recently moved back up to the US from Haiti and am presently looking for employment. Once I lock that up, I plan on going back through all of the mails that you’ve been kind enough to send me and get the courses that I need to get. Music is a goal for me but I still know so much less than most other people do. I am inspired by your presentations and know that I will make every effort to live up to the expectations that I’ve set for myself with your guidance.
All the best,
Abdullah

Hi there Dan.
Always love your videos and mail gifts
you have a nice way, calm and eazy way to let your scratching cats out of your sack, I t great, I m happe with the stuff I have bought from you, but there is one thing, I m not 16 any more unfurtunately, and some of the stuff has tabs written in tiny tiny fyl shit, and even with my new glases I have to guess what the fly shit means!!
so don´t do that again, big is eazy, small is distorting view. Thank you nice guy!

Hi Dan
I bought the Blues Guitar Basics Vol 1 & 2 plus the Blues Guitar Jam Tracks off you when they were on the special offer (they are fantastic). The money for these £10-42p (stirling) was taken out of my account on the 20th January 2009. On February 17th a further £20-73p (stirling was taken out of my account by yourselves and I don’t know what this was for. Could you please Advise me on this matter.

Rodney,
I will forward this to Lisa, and she can help you with it
