How chords are related to scales
Today, I’ve got 3 videos to share with you from Ultimate Guide To Chords. The first two are from the video tutorials section of the course. The 3rd is from DVD 2 of 8. It’s important to watch the videos in order (because it’ll make more sense that way).
Video 1: How guitar chords are related to scales.
Video 2: The roman numeral system and how to identify how guitar chords are functioning within a song.
Video 3 (below): Gives you a “real-world” example of how apply it!
I got word that the DVD/CDs were shipped to our fulfillment center last Thursday. So, we’re getting closer to having this thing ready to go! I know people are getting really excited. We’ve been getting a flood of emails and posts and everyone is asking to pre-order because they’re worried it’s going to sell out before they get a chance to order.
I’m putting the final touches on the book — it’s huge! (And taking longer than I hoped it would). So, I really haven’t had a chance to think about the “price” question. But, details will follow…
But, I do know this… if you already own one of my courses, you’ll receive a discount on this new one. It’s my way of saying, “Thanks!” for being a loyal customer.
Enjoy these videos and look for a new one from me later this week.
Please post your comments below!
Cheers,
Dan Denley

Dear Dan,
Enjoyed this one. Nice to see the variations on style you presented, as well as the easier option for playing the minor 7 chords with the thumb. I like mixing up ways of playing bar chords to help prevent fatigue when a song has all barre chords. This is another weapon I can add to my arsenal. Thanks !!

Hey folks,
Thanks for all the awesome comments. Much appreciated…
Yah, the baby is due NEXT WEEK! Her name is going to be, “Marcella” (sounds like, “Marsella”). So, if you’re a praying person, say a few for my wife. She’s going to need it!
I’m not 100% sure about the release date. But I’m thinking it’s going to be the last week of July.
Cheers!

I’m a busy dad, and I finally found some time to watch your chord/scale tutorials. Good and meaty, full of practical stuff and theory!! Musicians sometimes forget how mathematical and logical musical theory is, and gloss over the stuff that can really help. Thanks for being a breath of fresh air. I’ve saved all your e-mails, so I’m looking forward to what other surprises you’ve thrown my way.

Dan,
Over the years I’ve come to understand Chord Progressions and the relationship of Chords to Scales, but never understood WHY ??? In less than 25 min you’ve unlocked something of a mystery to me. Many Many Thanks.

I watched the video on how guitar chords are related to scales and came away a little confused. In the video you
show how you stack up thirds to make up a chord which makes perfect sense. However, I don’t see how some of the chords turn into ‘minors’(the 2,3,6 and the 7 dim).
Doesn’t a minor chord have a flattened 3 note?

Dan,
I’ve been enjoying the blues course I purchased from you. There is a lot of information there. The e-mails always have a lot of interesting tid bits as well. This section was good information as well. The only detractor I notice is that you don’t address the camera as much. You keep breaking eye contact and it makes you appear nervous. All you have going on right now I can’t imagine you not having some stress. Also it sounded like you may have been bending your chords a little pulling them off tune. Great lessons, you got me to learn some things my live teacher was trying to get me to do when I was taking studio lessons. I just couldn’t afford him any more! By the way I love the sound of your guitar! What amp do you play through on the videos? Keep up the good work and good luck with the new addition!
