Acoustic Blues “Shuffle”
Hi Folks,
Everybody seemed to REALLY liked the acoustic blues fingerpicking song that I released from DVD 5 of my new Acoustic Guitar Secrets course. So, I thought I give you another one from the same section on the DVD.
This song is called, “Dusty Blues.” It’s a simple 12-bar blues that uses a shuffle rhythm. Generally, this means that you’d have an triplet feel, with a quarter note followed by an eighth. (This will make more sense when you hear it).
I teach this song on DVD 5 of my course, which is a comprehensive study of acoustic guitar that I released, Dec 2007. The course is made up a 5 DVDs, 2 audio CDs and a 200 pg book.
- DVD 1: Basic techniques, stringing, tuning, selecting the right guitar, basic chords, counting rhythms
- DVD 2: Strumming patterns, barre chords
- DVD 3: Chord progressions, fills, embellishment, 5 chords
- DVD 4: Arpeggios & fingerstyle
- DVD 5: Survey of styles: Country, Bluegrass, Blues, Jazz, Latin
It’s a huge course and it’s definitely one of my best so far. It has one of the lowest return rates of any of my courses and the customer feedback has been astonishing. The next 1000 copies will be made available to public on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00AM Eastern here.

Hi Dan.. thanks for the Video… this helps a ton…
I’ve been messing around with this basic concept for a month or two… I’m assuming this can be expanded to any key etc.. thanks for explaining what the I, IV, and V meant…. Now I can try it out all over the place.
I’m really starting to see the relationships. Well at least I’m getting a mental picture of what’s going on which is a start. So let’s say we’re going to do this in
Key of Dmajor… We’d have two sharps F# and C#… D would be first Chord.. IV would be A correct and then the fifth would be B? (D,E,F#,A,B,C#,D)
Just so I’m getting the idea of how this works.. how do you figure out which turnarounds go with which 12 bar? or should I say which Key?
March 7th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
The one I was doing before which I forget where I got was basically E( toEm) to A(toA7) to B7… I,III,IV I think…Is there any rule as to which go where?…
Is it always I,IV,V? or does it change?

Once again, you did it Dan. Great video!! More please.
Reslly whetting my appetite for your release of this progam. How will this work with a 12-string?

Always enjoy your lessons–have several of your DVD’s…but DUSTY BLUES???…you keep talking about playing in Amajor? The TABS for this start in E7. I know I am a beginner, but can’t make much out of this tabs lesson…other than you play GREAT!

Thanks Dan ..
I am old .. and a very slow, confused learner, with stiff fingers .. it’s hard enough for me just to play ordinary chords correctly.
Your blues examples sound exactly what I WANT to someday be playing. I will keep trying.

Dan,
It’s lookin’ good! Soundin’ good. Looks to me like your on the right track to layin’ down some tune apps in a usable fashion. Staying on this train of thought WILL get the job done.

Hi Dan.
Thanks for all these free lessons. It’s always amasing for me to discover everything you decide to send.
But I have a question.
Is it possible to buy a french version of your Cd collection?
In fect, I’m coming from Belgium (Central Europe)and I’m very very interesting by your method witch it seems to me very complete.
I would like to order a copy. But, as you see, I’m not good enough in english to understand everything on the video….So, if a french version exist, you can be sure, I’m order it immediatly.
Hoping you can tell me “yes”…Lot’s of thanks.

Hi Dan,
The tab for your video Dusty Blues does not match.
March 8th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Would love to see some stuff from Vid 3. Fills, Licks etc.
March 8th, 2008 at 10:34 am
Hey dan,
Really appreciate the lessons.I am learning alot from them thank you. I have purchased the blues guitarsecrets and am enjoying them alot thank you
March 8th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
awesome stuff…..am saving to buy the dvds.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Your video is in key of A, the tab is in key of E.
Transposing wouldn’t be hard but your playing doesn’t match. Your tab shows a palm muted E string droan, but there is nothing like that going on in the video.
Other than that, I think your playing is fantastic.

Hi there i think your video is great, but i am only a learner, just started my chords, would like some really easy chords with a blue’s feel, if that is possible, then i will consider to buy your course. Keep up the good work i am really enjoying the sound that y are making and watching where y fingers go.

March 8th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I would like the real tab to the video, cause it rocks, but i’m not good enough to figure it out myself
March 9th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Dan, This was a very simple way to introduce the blues to a beginner, and also a great way for someone who has a little knowledge about blues to progress forward and maybe add alittle more to their own style. Great work, keep ideas like this going. Thanks, Steve

But the fingering looks nothing like an a7 or e7, and you do not show the fingering in the tab, so this is another case of not joined up thinking/ teaching.
Nice tune and you play well, but it teaches me diddly squit.
March 10th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Yikes! A guitar-guru friend of mine just told me the tab is for DIFFERENT songs. WHOOPS!
Ok, it’s fixed now. Just click the “Download tab” link above the video for the correct tab.
Cheers!

My Guitar site…
I’ve never seen a hurdy- gurdy in person, let alone played on stage at a rocking concert. Was cool to watch Regine crank away at it. In fact, it was pretty impressive how much the members of Arcade Fire interchange between instruments, both common one…

Looks perfectly straight to me. Of course, I’m also the type of person who allegedly [ahem! allegedly] agree with everything.
