Guitar Theory Lesson
As you know, I launched Blues Guitar Secrets Dec 12, 2006. And when I finished the course, I asked for feedback from my customers… 95.3% said they’d “recommend the course to friend.” That rocks! But I did get a lot of questions about various aspects of blues guitar theory.
So, I’m working on a new project that’s going to answer tons of those guitar questions. I should have it ready in a couple of weeks. Here’s a sneak-peak of what’s coming. (This is one of the actual videos from the new “project”).
If you’re a Blues Guitar Secrets owner, make sure you have your course-books in front of you. If you’re not a BGS owner, you’ll still be able to learn a lot just by watching the video!

Have a great weekend!
Cheers,
Dan Denley
P.S. If you’re not yet a Blues Guitar Secrets owner, you can check out all the details here.
P.P.S. Please leave your comments/questions about this video below. I love hearing from you!

An excellent course. Being a violinist and more interested in modern jazz as well as blues, I chose “Guitar Made Simple”, because it seemed to fit my musical background better. Eventually, I may buy Dan’s course to learn more about the blues playing. These are two great Guitar Instructors! Thanks, Bill

Dan knows his theory, but even better, he knows how to transfer his knowledge to beginners like myself. I just love the way he instructs. Bought his amazing guitar course and also the blues gold course. Lots of theory, but certainly worth wile. It will make me understand and become a better player.
Thanks Dan !

After buying the “Guitar Secrets” course I didnt think it was worth the money. The course is best on scales and is weakest on explaining theory you can use. This video is a step towards better theory.

I found this tutorial informative. At present I have an out of action right arm which is frustrating but theory is great just to keep in touch. I really enjoy theory. I prefer notation as I play piano as well.

Helen

This tutorial was clearly explained and easy to follow but it made me wonder: when do you use the A minor scale rather than the A Pentatonic minor scale?

I loved watching, Thanks and keep on ” Let the music play”

I am learning a bit more theory on each tutorial thanks to Dan’s cautious approach to each explanation. As a teacher of another heavy, though unrelated subject, it is easy to feel his difficulty in knowing so much about the whole musical makeup and every single particle of info he puts forward yet holding back so as to keep it all in simplest terms for guys like me.
Thanks Dan. It’s appreciated.

Well, after watching the video, i can only say that you have provide a very clear explanation on the guitar musi theory. I do not have your blue guitar secret. I would consider buying your guitar lessons if the price could be lower substantially.

Guess I never learned my key signatures Dan. I still do not know why the key could be C or A minor.
I am with you on the rest though.
Thanks

Dan’s method of teaching guitar is absolutely amazing. If you’re serious about learning guitar like any serious musician, then I suggest his program is the one.
Thanks Dan for all your support.

Seemes a bit slow and boring to me, but the main suggestion I have is to explain REALLY what an octave is. i.e., the ‘center of the fretboard on the guitar is the A note on the 5th fret of the 1st string. It has a base tone of 440 VBS ((vibrations per second)).
Then to explain the next lower octave of A (4th string 2nd fret) has a base VBS of 220. Then the next lower (open 5th string) has a base VBS of 110.
Moving up (ascending) from the 440 VBS “A”, would be the 1st string on the 17th fret, which has a base of 880 VBS.
If the guitar has these 17 frets, then it has a 4 octive range.

I teach guitar for a living. Dan no’s his theroy that’s for sure. I’v been playing guitar for about 20 years. How about a lesson on country licks using a Major pentatonic and explaining on the differnce in major and minor pentatonic scales? Im expanding my playing away from rock and wanting to lean more country and im lost…can you help?

Sorry. Couldn’t watch the movie. I don’t really know why, but it just wouldn’t load.
Thanks for the thought though.
I always enjoy these free tidbits even though I can’t scrape up enough $ to purchase.
Thanks again,
Pat.
April 24th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Well done. You may have wanted to mention that one fret is a semi-tone and two frets is a tone. In the scale if you go up two frets = major 2nd (ie. A to B) and one fret is a minor 2nd (ie. A to Bb). However the lesson was very good. Thanks for taking the time.
April 25th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
That was great. I learned quite a bit from your explanation. Thank you.
